YES, you can!
City of Portland bike lanes on Interstate Avenue, Denver Avenue, Willamette Boulevard and Greeley Avenue will get you to Going Street, Swan Island’s main access road. Contact the Swan Island TMA (503.745.6523) for trip planning assistance and several “off map” bike routes to Swan Island.
Swan Island TMA recommends use of the sidewalk on Going Street and the Swan Island roadway network. This is legal and the safest place to be if you’re sharing the road with trucks and anxious motorists during peak hours. Be sure to watch out for pedestrians and vehicles turning in and out of driveways.
The Going Street sidewalk provides bike/walk access to Swan Island. Much of the sidewalk is separated from traffic by trees and is 10′ wide at the Going Street bridge. Sidewalk links to sidewalks and crossings include Basin Avenue & Wygant, the Greeley ramp to Going Street and signalized crossing at Going and Port Center Way.
Remember, bikes are permitted on TriMet buses and MAX trains–no permit required!
